Rowe Racing Mercedes still going strong at dawn

Just over halfway through in the 67th running of the Total 24 Hours of Spa, track conditions in the Belgian endurance classic are still not the easiest to cope with. Even though the rain ceased on Saturday evening, fog made visibility a precious commodity at some places of the track during the night.

Pro Cup

The #99 Rowe Racing Mercedes of Dusseldorp, Bastian, Juncadella was still leading the race after 13 hours of racing. The car only briefly lost the lead due to a different strategy, but it took full points at the half-way mark. In second place with 11 hours remaining was the polesitter, #2 Audi Sport Team WRT, who was just under 40 seconds behind the leader at that point. The #45 BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS had dropped to third in the course of the night, after it incurred a penalty when Dirk Werner made contact with the #84 Bentley Team HTP of Vincent Abril. The second of the Marc VDS BMWs was a close fourth at the 13-hour mark.

For some protagonists the 2015 Total 24 Hours of Spa ended during the night. The #35 Saintéloc Audi and the #8 M-Sport Bentley stopped with technical issues, while the sole remaining Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini, the #63 car had an off. The Von Ryan McLarens also dropped down the order: the #58 car after making contact with the #333 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari and the #59 going into pitlane with a technical issue.

Pro-Am Cup

The fight between AF Corse team mates continued as the #47 and the #51 Ferraris battled at the top of the Pro-Am Cup rankings. Less than five seconds separated the two cars at the break of dawn. Both cars ran consistently well in the top-10 overall followed by the #79 Ecurie Ecosse BMW one lap down in third.

Am Cup

The duel between the #24 Team Parker Racing Audi and the #50 AF Corse Ferrari came to an end when the latter stopped on track (and caused a safety car intervention) with a gearbox issue. Replacing the #50 car gearbox gave the green-and-white Audi a comfortable two lap lead over the #56 Attempto Racing Porsche, which in turn enjoyed a lap advantage over the fight for third between the #10 Akka ASP Ferrari and the #111 Kessel Racing Ferrari.
