Nicki Thiim will start this afternoon's Sprint Cup race from pole after the #32 Team WRT BMW was penalised for a technical infraction concerning overboost. Kelvin van der Linde initially earned the ROWE Pole Position Award with a lap of 1m35.927s, but will now start from the rear of the 44-car field.
Thiim followed up Saturday's podium finish by qualifying P2 in the #7 Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin, and then inherited pole with his time of 1m36.154s. The Dane was just 0.043s ahead of Christopher Haase in the #84 Eastalent Racing Audi.
Marvin Kirchhöfer secured the best Sprint Cup qualifying result of the year for Garage 59 by taking third in his McLaren, while Ricardo Feller was fourth in the #80 Lionspeed GP Porsche.
Arthur Rougier qualified fifth overall on home soil to capture a commanding Gold Cup pole. The #111 CSA Racing McLaren will start six spots ahead it closest class rival, the sister #111 machine of Romain Andriolo.
Ignacio Montenegro scored Silver Cup pole, continuing the stellar form that the #30 Team WRT BMW has shown throughout the season. The Argentine will start 15th overall and four spots ahead of Saturday's class pole-winner Comtoyou Racing.
In the Bronze Cup, Peter Dempsey led the way aboard the #93 Ziggo Sport Tempesta Racing Porsche, placing 25th overall and beating several Silver cars. Dustin Blattner was the next best Bronze, taking P29 overall in the #74 Kessel Racing Ferrari.
This was not an especially good day for the Mercedes-AMG contingent. Dani Juncadella could only manage P7 in yesterday's victorious Verstappen Racing car, while Maro Engel was 10th for Winward Racing. But there were positive signs for Lamborghini, with Patric Niederhasuer taking P6 overall in Rutronik Racing's new Temerario.
