Porsche reveals all-new 911 GT4 R for 2027 season

Porsche has unveiled the new 911 GT4 R, introducing the iconic 911 platform to global GT4 competition for the first time ahead of its racing debut in 2027.

The new customer racing car replaces the Cayman-based GT4 Clubsport at the top of Porsche's GT4 line-up and is built on the latest 992.2-generation 911 GT3 Cup platform. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six engine producing up to 520PS, paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox, although output will be adjusted under GT4 Balance of Performance regulations.

Porsche says the 911 GT4 R features a wider track, upgraded motorsport electronics and revised suspension compared with its predecessor, while also incorporating natural fibre composite bodywork components. The cockpit includes a 10.3-inch display, integrated data logger and GPS system.

The launch reflects the continued growth of the GT4 category, which has become a key step on the pathway to GT3 competition through championships such as GT4 European Series and ADAC GT4 Germany.

"The combination of iconic 911 DNA and the proven GT4 concept creates a unique offering in the market," said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. "Our decision to bring the 911 platform into the GT4 category underlines the growing importance of this class in international motorsport."

Porsche has built more than 1,500 Cayman-based GT4 customer cars since entering the category in 2016. The new 911 GT4 R is scheduled to make its competitive debut at the start of the 2027 season.

SRO Founder and CEO Stéphane Ratel said: “It’s thanks to Porsche that we were able to build up the success of the GT4 category: it took eight years to get GT4 to the place where it is now, and in fact it was the arrival of the Cayman that really made it. So to have a new GT4 car from Porsche, based on the emblematic 911, is simply perfect.”
