Prologue Day 1: Lionspeed Porsche on top after opening day of pre-season test

GT World Challenge powered by AWS was back on track today (Wednesday 8 April) as the pre-season Prologue began at Circuit Paul Ricard.

In a first for the series, the Prologue is being staged just a few days before the opening six-hour race, which runs from 18:00 to midnight on Saturday evening. Two sessions were completed on Wednesday, running from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00.

Thomas Preining posted the fastest time of the day – a 1m54.682s – at the wheel of the #80 Lionspeed GP Porsche. The Austrian ace set his lap during the morning, beating the #84 Eastalent Racing Audi driven by series returnee Christopher Haase by 0.086s.

The #23 Team RJN McLaren of Ben Dörr topped the times in the afternoon with a 1m54.762s, good enough for second overall across the two sessions. P2 in the afternoon went to the #97 Rutronik Racing Porsche of Loek Hartog, 0.042s off the McLaren.

All of the 59 cars entered for this weekend's event were on-track across the two sessions. There were a handful of yellow flags and brief stoppages, but no serious on-track incidents. The Prologue concludes on Thursday with a single session that runs from 09:00 until 13:00.
