Jules Gounon put Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed on top in the final Free Practice of 2025 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Getting underway at 09:00, the two-hour session brought the full 60-car field out to prepare for tomorrow's deciding Endurance Cup race. Gounon matched teammate Luca Stolz's result from Thursday's pre-event test session, shaving three tenths off the German's benchmark.
Gounon posted a 1.40.793s to comfortably beat the #98 ROWE Racing BMW of Augusto Farfus. The #96 Rutronik Racing Porsche was third quickest, followed by the #23 Team RJN McLaren and the #51 AF Corse Francorchamps Motors Ferrari, completing a top five featuring as many different manufacturers.
The #23 McLaren was the best of the Gold Cup contenders thanks to Reece Barr's 1m41.180s. Class rival Adam Smalley was also among the overall top 10, placing sixth in the #58 Garage 59 McLaren. Lucas Auer placed seventh in the title-chasing #48 Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter entry.
Eighth and ninth overall went to the best of the Bronze Cup runners, with the #80 Lionspeed GP Porsche of Patrick Kolb edging Sean Gelael in the #991 Paradine Competition BMW. Loris Cabirou completed the top 10 and led the Silver Cup runners in the #10 Boutsen VDS Mercedes-AMG.
Despite topping the its class, the session was by no means perfect for the Lionspeed squad. With 25 minutes on the clock Kolb found the barriers on the outside of Turn 3, damaging the Porsche in the process. The car was eventually able to return to the track, but missed crucial running while repairs were carried out. The accident also caused the only red flag of the session.
Track action resumes at 14:35 with a one-hour Pre-Qualifying session. Sunday marks the final day of the 2025 season and will begin with Qualifying at 10:25, followed by the deciding three-hour race at 15:00. All sessions will be streamed live on the GT World YouTube channel.
