Craig Lowndes and Andrea Piccini join AF Corse for Total 24 Hours of Spa

Italian squad AF Corse have added two major racing talents to their line-up for the upcoming Total 24 Hours of Spa. On the #52 Ferrari 458 Italia – entered in the Pro-Am Cup – Steve Wyatt and Michele Rugolo will be joined by Australian Craig Lowndes and Italian Andrea Piccini.

40-year-old Craig Lowndes is one of the superstars of the Australian V8 Supercars championship. He is a three-time champion and a five-time winner of Australia’s most prestigious motor race, the Bathurst 1000. Earlier this year, Lowndes was one of the drivers on the winning Ferrari in the Bathurst 12 hours. It will not be the Melburnian’s first visit to Francorchamps, having raced on the Belgian track in 1997, when Lowndes was competing in the International F3000 championship.

One of Lowndes’ team-mates on the AF Corse Ferrari, Andrea Piccini, is also a former F3000-driver that became a very successful tin top-racer. The 35-year-old Italian was already victorious in the Total 24 Hours of Spa, as one of the drivers on the Phoenix Audi that won in 2012. In 2006 Piccini had already finished second in Spa, after taking pole position for the Belgian classic.

Craig Lowndes (#52 AF Corse Ferrari): “I've driven at Spa before and it's an incredible track. After our success at the Bathurst 12 Hour in February this year, I just knew we had to put something together. I've been wanting to do more GT racing in Europe for a number of years, so to finally have such a great event locked in for 2014 is very exciting. The combination of a Ferrari and the Spa circuit really is a dream come true."
