Barwell Motorsport names first of two Lamborghini line-ups for Endurance Cup assault

Lamborghini squad Barwell Motorsport has announced the first of two driver line-ups for the 2022 season.

The British outfit clinched last year's Pro-Am class title in the Sprint Cup and the combined Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS classification. Having run a single full-season Huracán in 2021, this term it will revert to a familiar two-car assault on the Endurance Cup.

The first of its entries will compete in the new Gold Cup class with series newcomers Alex Malykhin, James Dorlin and Ben Barker sharing the wheel. Their #78 Lamborghini will be backed by longstanding Barwell supporter Black Bull Scotch Whisky, as well as JDA Customs, Christophe Duchamp Watches and Rozalex.

Bronze-graded driver Malykhin is set for his maiden season in international competition,  making the jump to Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS from the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB. Dorlin also embarks on his first European tour having clinched the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB title in 2020 before moving to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship, where he competed in the GT4 class.

Pro driver Barker brings the greatest international experience to the crew. A multiple class winner at the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, the Brit is best known for competing in Porsche machinery in a variety of championships around the globe.

In addition to their Endurance Cup programme, Malykhin and Dorlin will also contest a pair of Sprint Cup events in 2022. The duo will bookend the season by racing on home turf at the Brands Hatch opener (30 April/1 May) and the finale at Valencia (16-18 September).

Barwell Motorsport is set to name the drivers for its second Endurance Cup entry shortly. The long-distance championship kicks off at Imola on 1-3 April before visiting Circuit Paul Ricard (3-5 June), the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa (28-31 July), Hockenheim (2-4 September) and finally Barcelona on 30 September-2 October.
