Team Profile: Attempto Racing

Attempto Racing has become a regular front-runner in GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS during recent seasons. Led by team owner Arkin Aka, the German squad previously enjoyed success in in one-make Porsche racing, running Nicki Thiim to the top-tier Supercup title in 2013. A full-time switch to GT3 competition came in 2015, when Attempto entered both the Sprint and Endurance Cups.

Its initial effort was split between McLaren and Porsche machinery, both of which yielded promising results. In its debut season, Attempto earned an Am Cup runner-up finish at the Total 24 Hours of Spa with the German brand, while a maiden overall podium came in only its second Sprint Cup outing thanks to Rob Bell and Kevin Estre's McLaren.

In 2016 the team moved to Lamborghini. A first Sprint Cup pole at Misano in 2017 showed more promise, but results did not follow. A switch to Audi for 2018 was quickly rewarded as the combination of Steijn Schothorst and Kelvin van der Linde scored victory at the season-opening Sprint Cup contest. The pairing went on to finish third in the Sprint standings, Attempto's best championship result to date.

2019 brought more strong showings, though again final results proved difficult to come by. Nevertheless, Attempto has a habit for finding speed: it began 2020 with pole position for the season-opening Endurance Cup event at Imola, followed by a Sprint Cup podium for young Italian duo Mattia Drudi and Tommaso Mosca at Misano. As its relationship with Audi continues to grow stronger, there is potential for Attempto to earn more even success during the years ahead.
