Barwell confirms two-car Lamborghini effort for 2020 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup

21 January 2020

Barwell Motorsport has renewed its commitment to the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup by confirming a two-car entry for the 2020 season.

The British squad has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, taking back-to-back Am class titles in what was previously known as the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup in 2018 and 2019. On both occasions, Leo Machitski and Adrian Amstutz (pictured above) shared the honours as drivers champions. Barwell has also clinched a pair of class victories at the Total 24 Hours of Spa, triumphing in the Am Cup and Silver Cup categories in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

The team will remain faithful to Lamborghini in 2020, with plans confirmed to run a pair of the Italian marque's Huracan GT3 Evo models in the five-round championship. The line-up for its Am car has been confirmed, with long-time Barwell driver Machitski returning to chase an unprecedented hat-trick of class titles. His full-season partner will be American racer Richard Heistand, who made his series debut at last year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa as part of the Strakka Racing squad that claimed a Pro-Am class podium.

Amstutz will complete the line-up at four of the season's five events, stepping aside for the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The Swiss driver had initially signalled his intention to depart the series but will now play a major role in Barwell's pursuit of a third successive Am title. Richard Abra will take Amstutz's spot at the 24 Hours, having previously joined the squad for its 2018 victory and again in 2019.

Barwell is yet to finalise plans for its second confirmed Lamborghini. Last year the young crew of Sandy Mitchell, James Pull and Jordan Witt were Silver class winners at Spa on route to fourth in the Endurance Cup standings. Both cars will be present for the GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS test days at Circuit Paul Ricard on 12/13 March.
