In Memoriam Charly Lamm

In Memoriam Charly Lamm

SRO Motorsports Group joins the global racing community in mourning the untimely passing of Charly Lamm.

A pillar of the sport for many years, Charly was inextricably linked with the BMW brand through his work for Schnitzer Motorsport, which he led to a string of successes on the international racing scene.

Among the many achievements of his long career, Charly oversaw several Spa 24 Hours victories during the event’s touring car era. These memorable triumphs, added to the titles and race wins that Schnitzer secured across the globe, established the team as a hugely significant player in international motor racing.

Charly was well known to SRO Motorsports Group, with his association stretching back more than two decades to the FIA GT Championship and continuing today as Schnitzer prepares to tackle the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

He officially announced his decision to retire last year. Charly’s final race in charge of Schnitzer Motorsport came at the FIA GT World Cup in Macau last November, which was won by the BMW Team Schnitzer M6 GT3. It was a fitting finale for a man who had brought such success to his team and to the BMW brand over so many years.

“I held Charly in the highest regard, having known him since he raced in FIA GT in 1997,” commented SRO Motorsports Group founder and CEO, Stephane Ratel.

“It was very moving when he won the FIA GT World Cup in Macau late last year, his final race after having announced his retirement.

“On behalf of everyone at SRO Motorsports Group, I send my sincerest condolences to Charly’s family, to his many friends, and to all of those in the racing community who will feel his loss.”
