Frijns loses fastest qualifying 2 lap for breach of the sporting regulations, Bortolotti takes pole

Robin Frijns has had his fastest lap from qualifying 2 deleted for a breach of the sporting regulations, meaning the Dutch driver will start tomorrow’s second Blancpain GT Series race at Zolder from 12th.

The Belgian Audi Club Team WRT pilot had set pole position with a lap of 1m28.363s. However, the reigning Sprint Cup drivers’ champion hit a cone outside the track limits at turn 8 during qualifying.

This caused a red flag and the session was stopped, resulting in other drivers having to abort their qualifying laps. For this, Frijns had the lap in question deleted. It is not the opinion of the Stewards that this was caused deliberately.

In addition, Frijns has had his fastest lap of the session – the pole-setting 1m28.363s – deleted. As such, he will start from P12.

That means the #63 Grasser Racing Lamborghini of Mirko Bortolotti will line up in pole position for race 2, with the #2 Belgian Audi Club machine of Will Stevens occupying second spot.

Frijns and Belgian Audi Club Team WRT have the right to appeal this decision.
