Official Test Day gives a taste of Total 24 Hours of Spa

The Official Test Day for the 2017 Total 24 Hours of Spa gave an interesting glimpse of the highly competitive nature of the endurance classic. Excellent weather conditions gave teams and drivers ample opportunity to be fully prepared for the highlight of the Blancpain GT Series and Intercontinental GT Challenge.

With well over 60 cars on track during the Official Test Day of the Total 24 Hours of Spa, the legendary track in the Belgian Ardennes was very busy during both the morning and afternoon sessions. The participants in the longest race of the 2017 Blancpain GT Series season had eight hours to prepare themselves for the event that will start in exactly three weeks' time.

During the three-hour morning session, the #78 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini proved to be the quickest of them all, lapping in 2’20.358. The gaps were small however, and the #25 Audi Sport Team Saintéloc machine was only 0.084 behind. The #78 Lamborghini was obviously fastest in Pro-Am as well, with the #888 Kessel Racing Ferrari quickest in Am Cup.

Incidents involving the #48 MANN-FILTER Team HTP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG and the #63 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini during the opening hours meant that the afternoon session had slightly less cars on track. Lap times went down all through the five hours of track action after the lunch break and eventually it was the #117 KÜS Team75 Bernhard Porsche that set the fastest time. The newcomers lapped the Belgian track in 2’19.451, which was a mere 0.086 of a second quicker than the #55 Kaspersky Motorsport Ferrari. Fastest in Pro-Am, and sixth overall, was the #42 Strakka Racing McLaren. The Am Cup honours went again to the #888 Kessel Racing Ferrari.

With the data gathered during this Official Test Day, the teams now have three weeks to make their final preparations for the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The Bronze Test on Tuesday July 25th will be the first track action of a very exciting week of racing.
