Twenty-two cars in one second

The second free practice session for the opening round of the 2017 Blancpain GT Series showed how close the most competitive GT championship of the motorsports planet can become: the top-22 cars were separated by less than a second. Mirko Bortolotti (#63 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini) set the fastest time.

Things are hotting up at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli: the second free practice session proved to be a very hectic affair, with plenty of different drivers and cars at the top of the timesheets. Eventually Mirko Bortolotti secured top spot, with a 1’33.019. The Italian driver was closely followed by Blancpain GT Series-rookie Lewis Williamson in the #42 Strakka Racing McLaren (fastest Silver Cup) and Steven Kane with the #7 Bentley Team M-Sport Continental. No fewer than 22 cars ended up in the same second. Fastest of the Pro-Am cars was the #333 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari.

The session was also interrupted three times for different incidents, with the #11 Kessel Racing Ferrari coming out worse, being heavily damaged at the front.

Tomorrow sees the Qualifying sessions (starting at 14.15 local time) and the Qualifying Race (starting at 20.30).
