The first day of track activities for the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, first race of the inaugural Intercontinental GT Challenge, saw plenty of action. After the first four free practice sessions, the #10 Team M-Sport Bentley topped the timing sheets, but the competition was hot on its heels.
With 12 minutes left in the fourth free practice session Steven Kane clocked a 2'03.233 in the #10 Team M-Sport Bentley Continental. It proved to be the fastest time of the opening day, beating the lap time of Will Davison in the #60 Tekno Autosports McLaren by a mere 0.07 of a second. The #74 Jamec Pem Audi, fastest in the second and third free practice session, ended up in fifth. The whole of the top-6 - with cars representing five different manufacturers - was covered by less than half a second.
Fastest in the GT3 AM-class was the #32 JBS Australia Lamborghini (ninth overall), while the GT3 cup cars were headed by the #38 Wotso Workspace Porsche 911.
The sessions were interrupted by a couple of red flags, but none of the cars involved sustained severe damage. The 2016 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour action continues tomorrow (Saturday February 6th) with fifth and final free practice 5 at 8:30am, qualifying session for all drivers at 12.55pm local time, followed by the 20 minute qualifying session for the Class A racers at 2.05pm.
