Spectacular start of the FIA GT World Cup

Spectacular start of the FIA GT World Cup

In Macau the very first edition of the FIA GT World Cup has taken a spectacular start. During the qualifying session several of the favourites had a (too) close encounter with the infamous Macau barriers, resulting in several red flags. In the end it was Stefan Mücke (Craft Bamboo Aston Martin) who took the pole for Saturday’s qualifying race. He will share the front row of the grid with Edoardo Mortara, driving an Audi R8 LMS of Blancpain GT Series regular Audi Sport Team Phoenix.

The FIA GT World Cup creates a showcase for GT manufacturers and when the Automobile General Association Macao-China (AAMC), promoter of the inaugural FIA GT World Cup, asked the SRO Motorsports Group to coordinate all operational work related to the event, SRO was happy to comply. Benjamin Franassovici, the team coordinator of the successful British GT Championship and of the Sepang 12 Hours for SRO, works on the Team Coordination while Sporting Director Jacquie Groom is the interface between the FIA and the Teams on all Sporting matters.

To further promote the FIA GT World Cup a live stream of the Qualifying and Main Race will be available on the official Blancpain GT Series website, www.blancpain-gt-series.com.
