Vanthoor on top in wet second free practice

The second free practice for the Baku World Challenge, the final round of the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series, was declared wet with steady rain falling over the Azeri street circuit. After a few cautious recce laps, lap times gradually got quicker. For a long time it looked like Alex Zanardi in the #33 ROAL Motorsport BMW would again top the timesheets, but a last ditch effort by Laurens Vanthoor in the #1 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi meant that the Belgian managed to beat Zanardi’s time by 0.741 of a second. Jeroen Bleekemolen in the #28 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini was in third, over a second behind Vanthoor’s time.

In Silver Cup, Vincent Abril in the #4 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi just pipped in front of Benjamin Hetherington in the #63 Fortec Mercedes, while Alessandro Latif in the #5 Phoenix Racing Audi was quickest of the Pro-Am Trophy drivers.

The Qualifying session will start at 16:00 local time.
