ENTRY LIST: NÜRBURGRING
GT World Challenge powered by AWS roars back into action on 29–31 August when a 61-car field tackles a three-hour Endurance Cup race at the Nürburgring.
No fewer than 10 manufacturers will compete on the 5.1km GP-Strecke layout, led by a significant contingent from German brands Audi, BMW, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. They will be joined by leading Italian marques Ferrari and Lamborghini, British brands Aston Martin and McLaren, and a pair of American heavyweights in Chevrolet and Ford.
A fixture on the calendar for more than a decade, the Nürburgring meeting takes place two months after a record-breaking CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, which saw Lamborghini capture its first-ever win at the Belgian classic. Following a memorable contest in the Belgian Ardennes, the action now shifts across the border to the Eifel mountains, kicking off the final phase of the 2025 campaign.
Ultra-close title fight resumes in Germany
Now that the dust has settled on the marquee race, it's clear that the battle for the Endurance Cup crown will be incredibly competitive. Indeed, there is almost nothing to choose between the top three in the standings. The #48 Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter crew of Auer/Cairoli/Engel leads the way on 54 points, just one ahead of the #32 Team WRT BMW line-up of De Wilde/Van der Linde/Weerts. Third in the standings – and just two points off the top – is the #96 Rutronik Racing Porsche squad of Müller/Niederhauser/Picariello.
There's a bigger gap after that, though it would be brave to rule out the #59 Garage 59 McLaren (35 points), the #63 Grasser Racing Lamborghini (34 points) or the #7 Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin (31 points). The top six crews represent as many different manufacturers, demonstrating just how competitive the 2025 season has been.
The most notable absentee from this list is the defending champion, AF Corse – Francorchamps Motors. The world-renowned Ferrari squad can still force its way back into contention, though it will require a win at the Nürburgring, something that the Maranello cars have not previously achieved. BMW will also chase its maiden series victory at the Eifel venue, aided by powerhouse squads Team WRT and Rowe Racing.
In contrast, this event has been a very happy hunting ground for Mercedes-AMG and Lamborghini. Grasser Racing triumphed last season and will be determined to capitalise on the momentum that comes from winning the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, while AMG was victorious in 2023.
A total of 17 Pro cars will chase outright victory at the Nürburgring. In addition to the names already mentioned, there will be further German representation from Aston Martin squad Walkenhorst Motorsport, HRT Ford Performance, Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed, and fellow AMG outfit Nordique Racing. VSR (Lamborghini), Boutsen VDS (Mercedes-AMG) and Porsche teams Schumacher CLRT and Pure Rxcing complete a field packed with quality.
Early title glory up for grabs in Gold, Silver and Bronze
There is a good chance that we will see at least one class title settled at the Nürburgring. The most likely is the Gold Cup, where the #33 Verstappen.com Racing Aston Martin crew of Vermeulen/Lulham/King enjoy a 25-point advantage. They would only need to extend this by two points to have the title sewn up before heading to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which stages the season finale in October.
Their main opposition comes from French squad CSA Racing, which won the opening round at Circuit Paul Ricard with its McLaren, and AlManar Racing by WRT. The latter crew won at Monza and counts BMW factory ace Jens Klingmann among its line-up. A field of 10 cars will chase Gold Cup honours in Germany, with further entries representing Audi, Lamborghini and Porsche. They include American squad Wright Motorsport, which remains on the grid after making its series debut at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.
The battle for the Silver Cup crown is led by the #42 Century Motorsport crew of Jansen/Moore/Waberski, who hold a 16-point advantage over fellow BMW outfit Paradine Competition (Clark/Ebrahim/Kellett). These teams won at Monza and Circuit Paul Ricard respectively, while Walkenhorst Motorsport took top honours at Spa with Leroux/Söderström/Villagomez sharing its Aston Martin. The team from Lower Saxony is 30 points adrift of the top and needs a strong result on home soil to stay in the hunt.
Another Silver crew to watch is Saintéloc Racing. The French outfit was runner-up at the 24 Hours with its Audi and can count on an exciting young trio of Lecertua/Klymenko/Gold. The class continues to attract a very strong grid, with the field of 17 cars featuring all 10 manufacturers.
The Bronze Cup can also be decided at the Nürburgring. Kessel Racing has been the class of the field with its #74 Ferrari, driven by the impressive trio of Blattner/Laursen/Marschall. They won at Circuit Paul Ricard and dominated the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa; as such, victory at the Nürburgring would put the title beyond doubt. The most likely team to stop them is Winward Racing, which has scored three successive podiums with its #81 Mercedes-AMG.
Ferrari and Porsche are the most popular manufacturers on the Bronze Cup grid, with four examples of each set to chase victory at the Nürburgring. Audi is also very well represented with three cars, while Aston Martin, BMW, and McLaren also feature among an ultra-competitive 17-car field.
