Audi dominates after six hours

At 22:30, six hours after the start of the 66th running of the Total 24 Hours of Spa, the lead was in hands of the #3 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi, closely followed by the #26 Sainteloc Racing Audi. The race had been interrupted for almost an hour to permit the evacuation of an injured driver from the track.

With the opening hours of the race being marred by several safety car interventions, the lights were put back to green four hours after the start of the 2014 Total 24 Hours of Spa. The fight at the front was dominated by the Audi teams of Belgian Audi Club Team WRT and Sainteloc Racing Audi, closely followed by the #84 HTP Motorsport Mercedes. The race was soon interrupted again however, when the #333 GT Corse by Rinaldi Ferrari and the #111 Kessel Racing Ferrari were involved in a crash at the exit of Stavelot.

The driver of the #111 Ferrari, Marcus Mahy, had to be stabilized before being airlifted to the hospital in Liege, so race direction took the decision to red flag the race to allow the safe evacuation of the driver.

Vadim Kogay, at the wheel of the other Ferrari, was transported to hospital as well – just like Tim Mullen (Von Ryan) and Andrew Danyliw (AF Corse) before him - to undergo precautionary checks.

After one hour of interruption, the race was restarted under safety car. The #3 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi, who had the lead at the six hour mark, was awarded a drive-through for having entered the pitlane during the red flag-situation, which handed the lead of the race to the sister car, the #1 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi.

Pro-Am

In Pro-Am, the #93 Pro GT by Almeras Porsche and the #43 ROAL Motorsport BMW had a good scrap for top position, but with the first one being awarded a drive-through for not respecting the track limits and the second going off in the hands of Eugenio Amos, it was the #79 Ecurie Ecosse BMW leading after six hours, from the #90 Scuderia Villorba Corse Ferrari and the #38 MP Motorsport AMR Aston Martin.

Gentlemen Trophy

In Gentlemen Trophy, the #51 AF Corse Ferrari had been leading the race for a long time, but before the race interruption it was passed by the #42 Sport Garage Ferrari, who was still leading after six hours. In third was the only Audi in the top-5 in Gentlemen Trophy, the #25 Sainteloc Racing Audi, one lap behind the leaders.
