Emil Frey Racing commits to Fanatec GT Sprint Cup with two-car Ferrari effort

24 February 2023

Emil Frey Racing will compete for overall victory in this season's Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Sprint Cup wit a pair of Ferrari 296 GT3 entries.

The Swiss squad has a long association Fanatec GT competition having previously run Jaguar, Lexus and Lamborghini machinery. This year it has switched to Ferrari and will campaign the Italian marque's all-new model in the five-round championship.

There is stability on the driver front, with three of Emil Frey Racing's four-man crew retained from its 2022 line-up. Indeed, Albert Costa has been part of the squad since 2016, and will share the #69 Ferrari with the sole newcomer, Thierry Vermeulen.

The sister car will carry the team's familiar #14 and sees Giacomo Altoè paired with Konsta Lappalainen. Both drivers are well known to Emil Frey Racing, joining the squad in 2019 and 2021 respectively.

“After having changed car make, confirmed the racing calendar, and established our pilots, we are now happy to be able to focus entirely on the coming test days," said team principal, Lorenz Frey-Hilti.

"We already know most of the pilots from our line-up. It is a good mix of years of experience and young talents. We are pleased to have on our side Thierry Vermeulen, a young and very talented pilot from Red Bull, for the 2023 racing season."

The 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS season will begin with the traditional test days at Circuit Paul Ricard on 7-8 March. The Sprint Cup launches at Brands Hatch on 13-14 May, followed by rounds at Misano (14-16 July), Hockenheim (3-9 September), Valencia (15-17 September) and finally Zandvoort (13-15 October).
