2-Hour Update: Marciello holds on to narrow lead for Mercedes-AMG Team AKKA ASP

After two hours of racing in the 2020 edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa, Raffaele Marciello still holds a narrow lead, with 17 cars still within one minute.

Thanks to a quick first pit stop – four to six seconds better than the cars behind – the #88 Mercedes-AMG Team AKKA ASP machine of Marciello extended its lead to just over 10 seconds after 90 minutes of racing.

Behind, Dennis Lind (#63 Orange1 FFF Racing Team Lamborghini) passed Patric Niederhauser (#66 Audi Sport Team Attempto) for second at Combes. The Danish driver quickly reduced his deficit on the leading Mercedes-AMG and finished the hour only 0.2 seconds behind Marciello.

Niederhauser was also under pressure from Maro Engel (#4 Mercedes-AMG Team HRT) and Thomas Preining (#40 GPX Racing Porsche). At the two-hour mark, the Porsche was leading the Audi from the Mercedes-AMG.

One of the most impressive performances came from Andy Soucek at the wheel of the #9 K-PAX Racing Bentley. The Spanish ace, who started from the back of the grid after technical issues during qualifying, gained 33 positions during the two opening hours, to become the leading Bentley driver before he handed over to Alvaro Parente.

Silver Cup was still led by the #78 Barwell Lamborghini of Frederik Schandorff, who in 21st overall was just ahead of the #991 Herberth Motorsport Porsche of Alfred Renauer. The German took the Pro-Am class lead shortly after the first pit stop. In the Am Cup the #26 Saintéloc Racing Audi of Steven Palette holds a slender advantage over the #129 Raton Racing Lamborghini.
