Grasser Racing appeal upheld, Zandvoort result stands

The RACB National Court of Appeal has ruled on the disqualification of the #63 Grasser Racing Lamborghini from the second Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe qualifying session (Q2) at Zandvoort.

The stewards of the event found that the car's data logger had not functioned properly during this session, which was considered to be a breach of article 27.6 of the 2019 Blancpain GT Series Sporting Regulations. The #63 Lamborghini was therefore disqualified from Q2, in which it had set the fifth best time.

Grasser elected to appeal the decision and the car started race two race from P5, going on to finish second. Pending the court's decision, results from the Zandvoort meeting and the final Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe and Blancpain GT Series classification remained provisional.

In reaching its decision, the court ruled that the appeal was admissible and grounded. As such, Grasser's original fifth-place qualifying position and subsequent second-place finish stand. The result of the race is unaffected, as are the championship standings.

The season-closing Blancpain GT Series event takes place today, with a three-hour Endurance Cup race wrapping up the 2019 campaign at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
