Barwell Motorsport confirms two-car Endurance Cup assault for 2019

Barwell Motorsport will return to the Blancpain GT Series in 2019 with a two-car assault on the Endurance Cup.

The British outfit will run the new Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo this term, continuing its successful relationship with the Italian marque. Barwell enjoyed a particularly impressive 2018 campaign, with its Am Cup entry securing class honours at the Total 24 Hours of Spa and Endurance Cup titles in the teams’ and drivers’ championships.

It also showed well in the Silver Cup category, with its #78 Lamborghini securing class victory at Circuit Paul Ricard and finishing third in the end-of-season standings.

The team had already stated that its Am Cup programme would remain largely unchanged for 2019, with last year’s drivers’ champions, Leo Machitski and Adrian Amstutz, defending their class title. A third driver for the Huracan GT3 Evo will be announced in due course.

Barwell has also confirmed that its Silver Cup squad will return this term. Two new drivers will join Scottish youngster Sandy Mitchell, who remains on board for a second season. The car will also retain the backing of Black Bull Whisky.

Still just 18, Mitchell enjoyed a strong maiden campaign in the Endurance Cup last year, forming part of a Barwell crew that frequently contended for Silver victory and came extremely close to securing class honours at the Total 24 Hours of Spa.

He is joined by two fellow Brits at the Barwell squad. Jordan Witt moves over from Team RJN Nissan for what will be his second season in the Blancpain GT Series, while 19-year-old James Pull steps up from a successful stint in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, which included a race victory at Spa-Francorchamps in the support event for the 2018 Total 24 Hours of Spa.

“Firstly I’d like to say a big thank to Black Bull Scotch Whisky, as it’s their continuous support of our Silver Cup young driver programme that allows us to be able to put together such an exciting driver line up,” commented Barwell team principal Mark Lemmer.

“We are very happy to welcome rising stars James Pull and Jordan Witt on board, and with them joining Sandy we will once again have a crew capable of challenging for race victories and the Silver Cup title.”

The opening Endurance Cup event takes place at historic Monza on 13-14 April. The series will then move to Silverstone (11-12 May) and Circuit Paul Ricard (31 May-1 June) before taking in the marquee Total 24 Hours of Spa (25-28 July). The campaign concludes at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya over the weekend of 28-29 September.
