The German manufacturer will be represented by a total of eight cars, with their entries spanning the Pro, Pro-Am and Silver Cup categories.
Audi have been quite literally unstoppable during the past two Blancpain GT Series events at Zolder, securing pole position and victory in both the qualifying race and main race on both occasions.
All of those wins came courtesy of Belgian Audi Club Team WRT, who lead the brand’s charge this weekend with no fewer than four entries. The Baudour-based squad secured the Sprint Cup title last year with Robin Frijns and Stuart Leonard, who return aboard their #17 R8 LMS.
Belgian Audi Club Team WRT will field two other Pro class entries this weekend. In the #1 machine, long-time WRT driver Christopher Mies is joined by newcomer Alex Riberas, who is preparing to make his Blancpain GT Series debut at Zolder.
In the #2 car, returning WRT drivers Will Stevens and Dries Vanthoor begin their new Sprint Cup partnership. Stevens won last year’s main race alongside Audi stalwart Markus Winkelhock, while Vanthoor can draw on the advice of elder brother Laurens, who took three wins at the circuit for Team WRT.
Two other Audi entries will challenge them for Pro class honours. Christopher Haase and Simon Gachet share the #25 Sainteloc Racing machine, combing an experienced Total 24 Hours of Spa winner with a young challenger.
Meanwhile, Attempto Racing will take on the Pro class with their #55 R8 LMS. Pieter Schothorst and Pierre Kaffer will share driving duties for the German squad.
Both of these teams will field additional cars outside the Pro class at Zolder. The second Attempto Racing machine sees Steijn Schothorst and Kelvin van der Linde competing for Silver Cup honours in their #66 machine.
Sainteloc Racing can call on last year’s winner Markus Winkelhock, who makes the move from Team WRT to the French squad. The German ace is joined by 18-year-old Nyls Stievenart in a Pro-Am effort.
Finally, a fourth Belgian Audi Club Team WRT car will fight for Silver Cup honours. The #3 Audi R8 LMS will be shared by two young local drivers, with 18-year-old Gilles Magnus and 24-year-old Alessandro Picariello joining forces.
Saturday will see two qualifying sessions and the season-opening race, with a second race scheduled for Sunday. All of the weekend's on-track activity will be streamed live on the Blancpain GT Series website.
