The outcome of the 2016 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup was only decided in the final lap of the final race at the Nürburgring. Rob Bell, Côme Ledogar and Shane Van Gisbergen came to the Nürburgring as the leaders in the standings, but had a horrible weekend, finishing 30th in the end. But since their direct competitors failed to score enough points, they managed to hold on to the lead by a single point over AMG-team HTP Mercedes-drivers Buhk, Baumann and Jaafar, who finished in fourth at the Ring. In the teams’ standings Garage 59 McLaren took top spot as well.

The race on the Eifel track was dominated by the #19 Grasser Racing Lamborghini, but Blancpain GT Series-rookie had a hard time in keeping the lead after a safety car intervention reduced his lead to nought with 33 minutes to go. In an epic duel, Engelhart held off Laurens Vanthoor, who had to take the #1 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT R8 to the lead if the Belgian squad wanted to win the Teams’ Cup. Vanthoor tried and tried, but the Lamborghini crossed the line in first.

In the Pro-Am Cup and Am Cup the Endurance Cups went to Swiss squad Kessel Racing, with Broniszewski-Bonacini-Rizzoli and Talbot-Zanuttini-Gitlin taking the drivers cups in Pro-Am and Am respectively.
