JP Motorsport plans two-car Fanatec GT Sprint Cup assault with McLaren

JP Motorsport has announced plans to contest the 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Sprint Cup with a pair of McLaren 720S GT3 entries. The Erkelenz-based squad will target overall glory with a Pro line-up, as well as competing in the Pro-Am class.

The Pro crew will be led by JP Motorsport stalwart Christian Klien. The former grand prix racer will link up with youngster Dean MacDonald, who switches from rival McLaren outfit Garage 59 following an impressive first year on the European stage. The 22-year-old Briton clinched this season's Sprint Cup Pro-Am Cup title alongside Miguel Ramos and also contested the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa.

In the Pro-Am entry, JP Motorsport team owner Patryk Krupinski will return for a second crack at the class title having finished as runner-up in 2022. He will share with the vastly experienced Norbert Siedler, who made a number of outings for the squad last term.

"Our goal is to fight for the title in [Pro-Am] with Patryk and Norbert," said JP Motorsport team manager Claude Roth. "But we also want to fight for top positions in the overall standings with Christian and Dean and we are very confident that we will succeed! Dean has already shown his talent this year and I don't have to say anything about the quality of Christian, a former Formula 1 driver and LMP1 factory driver!"

The 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS season will begin with the traditional test days at Circuit Paul Ricard on 7-8 March. The Sprint Cup launches at Brands Hatch on 13-14 May, followed by rounds at Misano (14-16 July), Hockenheim (3-9 September), Valencia (15-17 September) and finally Zandvoort (13-15 October).
