Further developments confirmed for 2021 calendar with Magny-Cours added as Sprint Cup contest

Further developments to the 2021 GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS calendar were revealed yesterday during Stephane Ratel's Total 24 Hours of Spa press conference.

The schedule remains largely unchanged from the draft version presented in September, with the official test days at Circuit Paul Ricard launching the campaign on 11-12 March.

The competitive action begins with an Endurance Cup race at Monza on 16-18 April before the Sprint season launches at Brands Hatch on 1-2 May.

Magny-Cours follows seven days later in a newly announced event. The French venue returned to the calendar for 2020 and, following a successful Sprint Cup weekend alongside the FFSA French GT Championship, remains in place next year.

The series will stay in France for its annual Endurance Cup contest at Circuit Paul Ricard (28-30 May) before staging two more Sprint rounds at Zandvoort (18-20 June) and Misano (2-4 July). Between these, the Total 24 Hours of Spa test days will run on to-be-finalised dates from 21-25 June.

The season's marquee event will return to its traditional place next year, with the Total 24 Hours of Spa running from 29 July through 1 August. The Nürburgring will stage an Endurance Cup round on 4-5 September before the Sprint Cup campaign wraps at a to-be-announced venue on 18-19 September.

The 2021 season will conclude at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 8-10 October. The Spanish venue returns to the Endurance schedule next term after staging a Sprint round this year.

For now, focus remains in the present season and the 72nd running of the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The Belgian endurance classic gets underway today (24 October) at 15.30 CEST and will be streamed live on the event's official website, Facebook page and the GT World YouTube channel.
