EZEQUIEL PEREZ COMPANC LAUNCHES MADPANDA MOTORSPORT

New team to compete in full 2020 GT World Challenge Europe season

  • Madpanda Motorsport confirms GT World Challenge Europe entry
  • Silver Cup program with 2020-spec Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo
  • Perez Companc serves as team principal and first driver

Argentinian racing driver Ezequiel Perez Companc has established a new team to compete in the prestigious GT World Challenge Europe this year, with Madpanda Motorsport planning a full-season entry using a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in the Silver Cup of the SRO Motorsports Group-run championship.

Madpanda Motorsport will be based in Barcelona, Spain, near the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, one of the tracks on which it will race during the GT World Challenge Europe season. The team will be supported by experienced motorsport engineering firm QEV Tech, which has previously worked on programs in GTs, touring cars and Formula E, and will now provide workshop space and equipment to Madpanda Motorsport.

Perez Companc, aged 25, will serve as both the team principal and the first announced driver. He will compete in all ten rounds of the championship, including the Endurance Cup and Sprint Cup, with co-drivers who are yet to be confirmed. The team’s brand-new 2020-spec Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo will race in the Silver Cup category.

Perez Companc has been a regular in top-level GT3 championships since 2015, driving for leading teams in Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi and Aston Martin machinery. In addition to his extensive experience in the Blancpain GT Series (now called GT World Challenge Europe), ADAC GT Masters and International GT Open, he has represented Argentina in the FIA GT Nations Cup, and raced at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring last year.

Madpanda Motorsport is currently working to finalise its lineup for the coming season, which will include one additional Silver driver for the Sprint races and two additional Silver drivers for the Endurance races. The team is interested in competitive and young talents rated with FIA Silver grading that will help it fight for the Silver Cup championships.

The Sprint Cup season includes rounds at Brands Hatch, Zandvoort, Misano, Hungaroring and Barcelona, while the Endurance Cup comprises longer races at Monza, Silverstone, Circuit Paul Ricard and Nürburgring, as well as the prestigious Total 24 Hours of Spa.

Ezequiel Perez Companc, team principal and driver: “I am really happy about this new challenge in my life. Many opportunities came together for 2020 that made this project possible and really exciting. I’d like to thank our sponsors La Gloriosa, Gentos and Puerta del Abra, as well as Mercedes-AMG for their support. We are not underestimating the challenge ahead but the support from QEV, the brand-new Evo version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3, and the new tyre from Pirelli for this year will all help us reduce the gap to the other experienced teams straight away. We plan to do some proper testing ahead of the season and be well prepared for the first race at Monza. I am really looking forward to starting the racing.”
